Hello World

I am Stefan,
a writer based in
Switzerland &
Nigeria.

About

Stefan was born and raised both in Nigeria and Switzerland. All I knew until 2016 was what I wasn't. It took me some years to discover what I was. Why do I write?
For centuries, the history, beliefs and folklore of African communities have been kept alive through the tradition of music and storytelling. I for one, as a child enjoyed listening to stories my grandmother told me. I love listening to and telling stories. I feel storytelling is an essential part of what it means to be human. We have an inherent need to share our human experience as well as the creations of our imagination. A good story is like getting to drink a glass of cold water after a long thirst. Writing for me is therefore a spiritual extraction which brings me, at least temporarily, in connection with my other self.

Here are my current books. Feel free to check them out.

Ikponmwosa United Kingdom

“A very illuminating account of being mix-race in a world steeped in ignorance and stereotypes. The author treats race and ethnicity with commendable candidness and maturity. Caught In-Between is Stefan Asemota's very sensitive personal story that compels wide attention.”

Max United Kingdom

“Stuck in a world of “Caught in-between”, Stefan coaxes us into his life journeys; riddled with uncertainties, encountered in his quest for balance and meaning! The beauty of this script would be all the bits that resonate with you, while you get to enjoy the scintillating narrative and descriptive style employed to teleport you into his Nigerian and life experience, which was laughter, joy, sad and mad, all in one Long Cocktail, guaranteed to intoxicate. I found the rendition of personal cultural events, historic sojourns both engaging and refreshing, propelling your curiosity to make this a page-turner till the end. After all, we all are confused at some point in something we can’t even pinpoint. So a must-read for you! Because you will learn something! Trust me. Applause to the author. And thank you for sharing.”

Mimi United Kingdom

“I found this to be an eye-opening read. For the first time I truly understand the challenges faced my mixed race Nigerians. The author tells his story with wit and humour, which makes it as funny as it is revealing....”

Flavio Portugal

“Great book about Nigeria from a perspective from a Swiss Nigerian. Quite interesting reflection based on the author's personal experiences.”

Joy United Kingdom

“Very interesting read...nice stories of the different experiences...now have a better understanding of what my "mixed race" friends go through..”

James Amuta, Author of Enigma: Beyond the Poet Lagos, Nigeria

“For perhaps the first time, we get a front-row viewing of what it feels like to be caught in between fatherhood and divorce; being culturally rudderless and constantly subjected to cultural segregation; love and letting go: acceptance and denial, and everything in between. In a brutally honest narrative, the author takes us on a mentally stimulating cultural journey with all the trappings and magic of a travelogue, penned with unintended mystery and suspense, encapsulated in self-flagellating humor”
